San Guan Dian Shuai, also known as Three Kingdoms and Shuai, is a traditional Chinese opera that originated from the Shanxi province.
It tells the story of the Three Kingdoms period in ancient China, focusing on the battles between Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Quan.
The opera features a unique singing style, with high-pitched and nasal tones, and is accompanied by traditional Chinese instruments such as the erhu and pipa.
The costumes worn by the actors in San Guan Dian Shuai are also an important part of the performance.
The male actors wear a long robe called "Laosheng" or Elderly Male, which is made of silk and has intricate embroidery.
The headpieces worn by the actors are also highly decorative and often feature intricate designs and patterns.
One famous actor who played Laosheng was Marshal Yang Yanzhao.
He was born in 1908 and began his career as a singer in 1927.
He later became a renowned actor and director of San Guan Dian Shuai.
His performances were known for their emotional depth and his ability to convey the character's inner struggles and conflicts.
In addition to its musical and theatrical aspects, San Guan Dian Shuai also has a rich cultural history.
It reflects the values and beliefs of the people of Shanxi province during the Three Kingdoms period, including loyalty, bravery, and filial piety.
