What is hanfu and how is it different from qipao?
Hanfu is the traditional clothing system of the Han Chinese people with a continuous 4,000-year history. It features crossed collars, wide sleeves, and flowing silhouettes fastened with sash belts. Qipao (cheongsam) is a form-fitting dress with a Mandarin collar that originated in 1920s Shanghai. Hanfu is loose and ceremonial; qipao is fitted and modern.
